With summer just around the corner, your air conditioning unit is expected to be one of the most heavily-used appliances in your house. Keep in mind, however, that its moving parts can be put under a lot of stress while operating during periods of hot weather. That’s why it’s a good idea to schedule maintenance with a reliable cooling and heating repair company. After all, the last thing you want is for your AC unit to suddenly break down in the middle of a heat wave.
Read on as we discuss the various air conditioning components that will require extra care and attention this summer.
Condensate drain. With hot weather comes humidity, which your air conditioner will draw out of your indoor air. The equipment will work harder as water vapor moves to the coils and then to the condensate drain. The problem, however, is the likelihood of it getting clogged due to excess humidity. Your local HVAC technician will take a good look at it during your scheduled tune-up.
Compressor. The compressor circulates the refrigerant necessary for heat exchange through the coils of the indoor and outdoor AC units. Long run cycles, which can be caused by low airflow due to a clogged filter, will put the compressor under too much stress. Replacing the filter is recommended to fix this issue. Compressor problems may also be the result of low refrigerant charge, which your central heating and air conditioning contractor should check. They may be able to perform repairs if they find that there’s an existing leak.
Capacitors. The capacitors are an integral part of your AC unit. They help the necessary motors start up and assist them in their run cycle. When the weather is very hot, however, there’s a good chance that one will fail. When this happens, the other components won’t be able to start properly.
